His Story
Eugene A. Heise was born January 29, 1941. His leadership abilities were already evident during his school years. As a student, Eugene served on the Student Council, and during his senior year he was elected president of his class.
He later served his country in the United States Army. The records currently available for this biography do not provide details of his Army service, including his rank, unit or dates of service, so those portions of his military career remain to be documented.
Eugene married Lois Diane Jacobson, daughter of Russell and Ida Jacobson of Cambridge. The couple was married at East Koshkonong Lutheran Church. At the time of their marriage, Lois was employed as a stenographer for the Wisconsin Department of Motor Vehicles, while Eugene worked as a labor supervisor for the James Foundry Corporation in Fort Atkinson. Following their marriage, they made their home in Cambridge.
In later years, Eugene became active with American Legion Post 59 in Stoughton. He served two consecutive years as Post Commander, leading the Post in 1997 and 1998. His service placed him among the generations of veterans who have provided leadership to Post 59 and helped carry the organization into a new era as the 20th century drew to a close.
Lois remained an important part of Eugene's life until her death in 2020.
Although we currently have only a portion of Eugene's story documented, the records we do have reveal a lifelong pattern of leadership and service—from serving as senior class president, to his service in the U.S. Army, and eventually to his two years as Commander of American Legion Post 59.
